What time is it? Since the season isn't half over, it's time to talk about next yr of course!

The first two players that caught my attention as far as point guards: Jack and Lowry.... that's w/o thinking too much. Many ppl here have already said they'd give up next yrs Christmas presents for Lowry (but it looks like we'd have to trade for him), I think Jack would be a perfect compliment to Lowry. Of course Jennings will be offered more than the 4.3 so the Bucks will have to pony-up somewhere up to 10 million a yr to keep him. Offering Jennings a 4 yr deal at around 8 mill a yr isn't too far-fetched for the Jazz to pull the trigger.

Of course there's the wheeling-and-dealing that could happen before the trade deadline so the other positions (and their salaries for this yr) are included.

Unfortunately, the draft is the only viable option I see. Trade this team into losses by dumping Jefferson, Foye, Marvin, Sap, and Mo if possible. Take on bad contracts in exchange for draft picks. Lose your way into a 6-7 pick or strike lotto lightning. Could also shop these picks for a star.

If the Jazz want to make the playoffs they'll have to pay some cash for it. Grooming a draft point guard is fine and all but unless he's another Lilliard- the Jazz have to look at the options here.

Look at Teague, qualifying offer of 3.4 million. He Averaged 14 pts and 7 asts with pretty good fg percentages last yr. Offering him a million more, or even two million more than his qualifying offer could be worth it. Just keep in mind the other current Jazz players - when they'll be eligible for a new contract- is how you can set the years on the offer... Nothing wrong with stealing a player like how the Blazers stole Matthews. Give Teague an offer of 15 million for three yrs or 10 million for two yrs isn't a bad Idea--- if he'll take it and the Hawks won't match.

Jose Calderon will probably want more than the Jazz would give.

Nate Robinson only made 854 k last yr--- totally doable as a spark-plug-giving him a 2 yr deal of 3 million (1.5 mill a yr).

As said, offering Brandon Jennings a 4 yr deal at around 8 mill a yr isn't too far-fetched for the Jazz to pull the trigger...The Bucks may or may not meet the offer, but the Jazz would need to be commited to him to do it. Last yr he averaged 17.5 pts and 6.5 asts last yr.. only 23 yrs old. I'd do the 4 yr deal with him in a sec.

What else strikes your fancy?

Man, I still love Calderon on this or any team. The guy is a prime PG. Defense is certainly lacking, but it seems like most PG's aren't that good of defenders anyway.

I LOVE Nate Robinson as a back up PG. Everywhere he's gone, he's been good. The ultimate attacking change of pace PG. And what a good teammate. Could be had CHEAP too. I love it. I mean look how he's kept the Bulls in it a good chunk of the year this year.

Its a complete guess, but I'm not sure if ATL fans love Teague. He's been good/fine, but I dont know, I sense mediocre.

Jennings, nah. Too much for no consistency.

Ideal situation, we grab one of those top PGs in the draft, let Mo go, pickup Calderon and Nate, and there's our 3 man rotation.

Damn, you make it sound so easy! Very Happy

And Calderone/Nate/McCollum would give us 6 championships, maybe 7, easy /dreamlander. Realistically, it would be an almost infinite upgrade from the last two years. And we'd still have money for another (badly needed) big or a SG.

Speaking of "bigs", I shouldn't have to point out that Kanter/Favors is great but you need 4 or 5 PG/C players on your roster. Not "4 or 5 almost equally talented" bigs, but just some size and muscle to put out there. And we DON'T HAVE THAT NOW. But I'll probably have a whole post on this subject eventually.

Okay, the complete list:

The following lists the 2013 free-agent class by position, followed
by their 2012-13 salary. A free agent becomes be restricted when their
team issues a Qualifying Offer. Only players coming off a first-round
rookie scale contract or with three or fewer years in the league (whose
rookie scale options were not declined) are eligible. Teams need to
officially issue that Offer by June 30, 2013, to make a player
restricted.

PostSubject: Shooting Guards (sorta)   Fri Apr 19, 2013 9:49 am

Kyle Korver will be a free agent. Any reason we WOULDN'T want him back? (at a reasonable price, of course)

Tony Allen (of the Grizz, good defender),

Marco Bellinelli,

Ronnie Brewer!!,

Kevin Martin, (solid shooter-scorer who may have accepted a 6th man role. Why would he not resign with OKC though?)

JJ Reddick (who played GREAT for Orlando before being traded. Excelled in a structured system and average a shitload of assists per game. Actually, it was 1.2 assist shitloads/game.) Will probablly be overpaid somewhere.

Randy Foye is also avaialble*.

*-lol

PostSubject: Small list of Small Forwards   Fri Apr 19, 2013 10:04 am

Not so many.

Josh Smith for a bazillion-and-a-half/year. He'll sign with the Lakers, just watch.

Omri Casspi, underrated and misused, $3mill qualifying

CJ ****** Miles!!

Corey Brewer UFA, made $3+ mill

Delfino-made $3 mill

Chandler Parson-RFA made <$1 mill. Will be resigned, of course,

Lamar Odom and Matt Barnes!!! Package deal!! The two players will actually be stitched together!!

Mental World Peace!! made $7 mill. (note: does not come with working brain)

Mike Dunleavy- made $3.7 UFA

Chase Budinger- UFA made <$1 mill

Chris Copeland-RFA made <$1 mill

HEDO TURKOGLU!! Speaks turkish!! Scored over 30 points this year!! Can be had for only $12 million!! However, if you would take him, you could probably get a high draft pick or Tobias Harris thrown in.

Marvin Williams
-Utah Jazz, $8 mill per. *sigh*

Demarre Carroll!!! UFA, made <$1 mill

Dorrell Wright UFA made $4 mill

I see some cheap rotation contributors in there, and some roster filler.

Andray Blatche UFA made <$1 mill. Maybe not a "Jazz guy", know what I mean? Will be overpaid, somewhere. Probably Eastern Conference.

Brandon Wright UFA made <$1 mill

Jason Maxiell!! UFA made $5 mill. Like a muscly Millsap with less skills. Never mind.

Carl Landry Player option, will probably re-sign with GSW for $4 mill. But a very solid bench scorer/rebounder.

David West UFA, made >$10 mill, over 30. Had a very good year, though.

Tyler Hansbrough, RFA @$4 mill

Earl Clarke
, UFA >$1 mill

Al-Farouk Aminu
, UFA strictly a rebounder/defender type, but did that pretty well this year. made $3 mill.

Rahseed Wallace. Lol. Also retired again.

DeJaun Blair
, UFA, made <$2 mill

Josh McRoberts, UFA made #3 mill, might want to be on a non-losing (i.e.: non-Charlotte) team next year. Has some actual skills.

James Johnson, RFA @ $3 mill. Might want to get out of wherever they'll be next year.

Paul Milsap-UFA. I've heard of this guy. Improved every year, undersized, has to start. Never mind.

JJ Hickson-UFA. Made $4 mill last year as an undersized Center. Might make a good addition at PF. Among the "Most Likely to be Overpaid" group, though.

Kwame Brown-lol.

Louis Amundsen
-made approx $20/hr, also cleans restrooms and washes cars. I like, as "big who won't demand minutes, and will play ass off when you do put him in".

PostSubject: CENTERS!!!    Fri Apr 19, 2013 10:41 am

ZaZa Gabor Patchulioil Pachulia-nothing more sophisticated than making fun of foreigners names, amirite? UFA made $5+ mill.

Byron Mullens-RFA @ $3+ mill Showed some shooting skill, but was inconsistent and injury-prone.

Jason? Jaron? One of the Collinses, anyway. Lol. Unless it's the other one, then...lol also.

Chris Kaman- UFA. Made $8 mill, but I have no idea what his value has dropped to.

Timofey Mozgov RFA @ $4 mill.

Andris Biedrins-lol

Cole Aldrich
-UFA. White Stiff. $2.5 mill last year. Tall.

Ronnie Turiaff-UFA, bad knees, good cheerleader

Ryan Hollins- UFA He's Ryan Hollins. NOTE: Both he and Turiaff are listed as making exactly $854,389. Cents not given.

Dwight Howard-UFA. Infinity millions/year

Samuel Dalembert
-UFA made $<7 mill. Sometimes productive, but teams are always eager to replace him.

Nikola Pekovic-RFA @ $6 mill. Productive, but seems fragile for someone with such a manly beard.

Tiago Splitter-
RFA @$6 mill. Tall. Knows how to play basketball.

Andrew Bynum is a UFA.

Okay, I admit it. I highlighted names almost randomly here. I also left out Robin Lopez and Nazr Mohammed because I don't like them. We mostly just want someone BIG, y'know? I like the guys on the PF list more than most of the Centers here. I DO like the thought of stealing Splitter from the Spurs, though.

You people are idiots. I look down that list and I see Chris Paul and Dwight Howard, while you guys are talking Omri Casspi and Beno Udrih. I can hardly pronounce those names. I can, however, pronounce Chris Paul and Dwight Howard. I pronounce them, collectively, 'CHAMPIONSHIP'!

Yeah, I wish I was in the Jazz front office. I'd wrap up those two studs and *boom*, five rings for all five of Skiier's fingers!*

*I should explain. Skiier lost his other hand in a masturbation accident. Thus only five fingers.

As for the Omri Casspis of the world, we're gonna need 12 players (I think the CBA insists on this), and we're far short of that. So yeah, we're gonna have to keep shopping even after we lock up Paul and Howard.

Well, I left the country for 10 days, the Jazz fell out of the playoffs, (damn hard to get a news feed where I was and I couldn't fathom how things shook out when I finally got one), Kobe blew up, Boston blew up, a fertilizer company blows up while I'm gone - sobering stuff. And the Jazz are blowing up. This going to be interesting times in moving forward, uncharted territory. Do the Jazz go big, subtle, safe or bold in this aftermath? All I know is it is going to be seriously interesting as a Jazz fan because you look at the pieces of this season, the cap space the Jazz have etc, and either disaster or excitement is on the horizon line with pending moves. I am so glad I'm not the guy who has to thread the next needle of Jazz relevancy. This could be the beginning of the new Bobcats or...something worth watching.

Oh yeah.

"...there's a thousand other possibilities...this is where the NBA GM's job is like building a house of cards while riding a unicycle in a hurricane. On a tight rope. One-handed.

It must be tremendously rewarding to resolve the roster puzzle (with innumerable possibilities each affecting all the others, each itself effected by other influences: winning, making money, fan reaction, owner preference, etc), that GMs are faced with, starting pre-draft (starting right NOW, in fact).

This is the time of year when I always think "NBA GMs really do earn their money." Good luck Mr. Lindsey!!"

Apparently putting a post about Glory Road and quoting the lines from the movie while entertaining the thought of getting an all white team was racist? Just adding a little humor here during the dog days until the new season starts.. but if you don't know me I GUESS it could be construed as a racist post.

Note: One of my best friends is black. I have a black bro in law and nephew whom I love.

Ok, onward to the topic: I can't see the Jazz doing better than securing Jennings and Jack with multi year deals (and they're black, gasp!! Hurrah for reformation) . Let Jefferson and Sap walk, draft a couple bigs to backup Kanter and Favors and the Jazz are sitting pretty.

PG...Jennings, Jack, Tinsley
Sg ..Hayward, Burks
SF...Marvin, DC
PF...Kanter, Evans, Draft pick
C..Favors, draft pick

This team could make the playoffs. Pretty apparent last yr the Jazz needed to optimize possessions after running as their first option on offense. No more dumping it down to the post as a first option! ! Jefferson is likely gone anyway so a drastic change is needed.
Btw, Jennings, Hayward, and Burks could be the starters along with Favors and Kanter ...any one of them are capable of going off. That's a young athletic team for the future.

Not a bad lineup but not sure that would in fact be a playoff team. It is a little over-stacked on PG dontcha think? A playoff team in the West can't have any weak spots in the starting rotation and when I see "Marvin/DC" at the three I see a big weak spot. Both those guys are solid bench guys but neither are starter material, (as we saw). Further, more than a little thin C. Favors has trouble staying on the floor with fouls and while I haven't seen "draft pick's" game I'm pretty sure he isn't ready for meaningful minutes. I think Draft Pick has to be Decent Established Veteran.

Jennings is a big quesiton mark for me. If I heard the Jazz signed him, I'd be excited because of what he COULD be, but from what I've seen, he is wildly inconsistent, is a volume shooter (shooting under 40% for his career), is only a fair three point shooter, seems immature, and is an average defender. He has talent, but I don't know that he is the floor leader of a GOOD team. I'm just not sold. However, it's not like there are a bunch of better FA options, so I suppose that makes him more exciting.

Btw, the NBA is a league centered around guard play. If you don't have multidimensional guards then you're toast. Drafting a PG that's ready to contribute isnt realistic with the 14th pick. Jennings, Jack, Burks, and Hayward can all fast break and draw fouls. HUGE difference from last yr...and most can lite it up from threeland - even Burks showed his distance last yr.
I just want players that can run a fastbreak and finish!! Or get to the line trying. I have complete faith in Favors and Kanter rebounding and improving on offense.
If you want to win now, and keep Favors and Kanter - get proven guards that'll run and attack with Hayward and Burks.

It's the only way short of trading what we already haveon the roster. Iow, Kanter is a decent low post threat and Favors needs work on offense.

In reponse to DC and Marvin not being ideal at sf-- I agree. Hayward playing SF is ideal if two vet pg's are acquired ...especially Jack. He can play sg with Burks....floor leadership and being multidimensional is the key when you're dealin with two young bigs that'll likely be your starters.
