D-Leaguer playing for the Bakersfield Jam 6'3, 200 lbs, 25 years old, Shooting Guard. He is Marquette's all time leading scorer, and was the Big East player of the year and Defensive Player of the Year.

Looks like he's got nice athleticism and plays tough D, looks like he is playing some Point Guard for the Jam.

Which raises the question, again, why are the Jazz dicking around with 10-day contracts with guys who are never going to see the floor? Is this some bizarre form of recruiting/auditioning? Anyone else besides me getting the feeling we won't be seeing Murphy around after the season concludes?

It's definitely recruiting/auditioning, but it isn't that bizarre. The Jazz have done this in the past, other teams also do it, it's a way to get a jump on players they think they might like to invite to camp next year.

He's shooting about five 3's a game & knocking them down at 39%... not bad. Definitely a scorer.

FYI: Jazz signed McNeal for the remainder of the season.

I'm a little suprised they didn't go find a big to sign instead of a guard. I would think that a big body "insurance policy" to replace Kanter would be more of a priority, especially if they make the playoffs and Enes can't play.

With Jefferson, Favors, and Millsap making a nice 3 man rotation right now I think they are ok with having Evans and Williams available if they are in a pinch. I also think they are wary of all the nagging injuries they have on the wings. Tinsley, Burks, Murphy, Marvin and Mo all have injuries that could force them to sit at any time so having another wing makes some sense.

Aside from that, they must like what McNeal is binging in practice or they wouldn't have kept him around. I'd expect to see him in camp next fall.
