If id have to put a guess on the rankings, just putting in the west, here it goes, without really looking at additions/subtractions on a website, and doing it at the top of my head.

1. OKC
2. SA
3. Lak ers
4. Memphis
5. Clippers
6. Denver
7. Utah
8. Dallas

Is GS better than any of them? Dallas has carlisle as the coach, that could bump them up. I can very easily see the standings being like they were in 2007-08 or 2009-10 where the west was jam packed and everyday it seemed like you win you climb up 2 spots, you lose you lose 2 spots.

I know that San An always makes a fool of everyone, but this year I do believe they falter. No way they can go 82 games without their best sitting a bunch. OKC isn't moving from the top. *****, I hate to say it, but I think MJ wannabe does a MJ wannabe-like spin about how it's "for the greater good of the team" for him to not impose his will and be so dominant so much so that others are happier and dont pout, so he'll turn it down a few notches, you know, "for others". In reality, he's slowed down, isn't as good, but still as cocky and arrogant. Either way, Nash will get the ball more, and as much as I hate it, the Fakers will be good. F!!!
Memphis, good, not great, no improvement, still like the Wests ATL Hawks. Clippers I think will get better, and they filled holes they needed. Denver. Hmmm. SLIGHTLY better, but not more improvement than others have shown. Actually like McGee there.
I lovingly say.....Dallas will suck. Hahahahaha, I love it!!!! (also, DFav is going to punk Dirk, at some point, this year. You heard it here first) And lastly, I think Minnesota and PHX, PHOENIX!! battle it out for 8th. Minny stays healthy, they've added shooters, and would have been in the playoffs last year. PHX, if you haven't noticed, only lost old guys, but gained really good players. Look at this lineup: Dragic,Dudley, Beasely,Frye,Scola, Gortat, Shannon Brown. Thats pretty freaking good!! Lastly, ugh, Damian Lilliard is the TRUTH. I saw Derrick Rose yesterday watching him, as he juked left then right, and then threw one down on some center right down the middle of the lane....could have been ours. So yea, Portland with Batum,Aldrige, Lilliard, Matthews, they may be the darkhorse. So heres my predicition:

1. OKC
2. Clippers
3. Fakers (but almost tied for 2nd)
4. Memphis
5. Utah (but 4/5 could be swapped either way)
6. San Antonio
7. Denver
8. Minnesota (with a battle with PHX for the last spot)
9. PHX
10. Portland
11. Dallas, hahahahahahaha

PHX has a good team? No, Nash is not the MVP he used to be, but hes still probably a top 5 PG. They lose him, and add dragic? Beasley is a bum. No way PHX is better than any of these teams. Who is their best player? Scola? Dragic? Gortat? Come on now.

SA will not be a 6th seed. Remember how dominant they were? That ridiculous bench is huge in the regular season. They dont drop 5 spots in one year. Sorry.

Minny? The same team that went 26-40? Brandon Roy could be solid, but he is not the same player he was in Portland. I really like Chase Budinger as a backup. Let's not forget, torn ACL's usually take 2 years to recover. I doubt Rubio is the same this year he was last year.

I can see a 2 seed for the Clips, maybe, IF they get the Odom that was with the Lak ers. Jamal Crawford is not good. I dont understad how people can think of him as a good player, when he only does one thing, and that is score. He shoots 40% so hes not even an efficient scorer.

Denver will be dangerous man. Dont sleep on them. McGee with vets around him to keep his head on strait? Is there a more athletic big? He needs vets to keep him plugged in. Can you blame him for being disengaged, getting blown out every game in Washington? Totally different atmosphere will do him well. Gallo also missed 1/3 of last year. They are improved man.

You think, Utah will have a better team then SA? Gosh, do you remember the beat down the Spurs gave Utah? No way this happens.

1. OKC
2. Clips
3. Jazz (or 4)
4. SA (or 3)
5. *****
6. Memphis
7. Denver
8. Minny
9. Dallas/PHX/P-town

I don't think the *****'s experiment is going to work unless/until they get Howard, which I am sure will end up happening, then they jump to 3 with the rest sliding down in that order. If CP3 and Griffen stay healthy look out. SA is still going to be good no matter what. Memphis and Denver not really better than last year. Minny is a lock for the 8 if Rubio comes back healthy.

As for the Jazz, until the last couple weeks of the season they could have finished at the 5 spot, and I am going to argue that they alone have the highest potential to jump up the standings for the already discussed reasons: improved floor spacing, paint dominance with Kanter improvement and Favor more tick, better 3-point shooting and improvement in GH/Burks/Evans games. If Murphy can truly be a 7 minute all around mid- to long-range guy, BONUS.

What you want Murphy to be is nearly impossible. This is one reason why Jimmer really struggled is because you cant get in a rhythm playing so little. You are on the bench for 30 minutes in real time, then you go in, and you expect him to be in rhythm playing 3-4 minutes per half? Very, very, very few players can come off the bench in rhythm right away.

Why are people down on Denver? Getting a healthy gallo is huge. Yes, he is one of my faves, but there are not many more efficient offensive players. They went 27-16 with him last year. Read that again.

You dont think PHX could be better than Portland or Dallas? Because thats what I said, that PHX woudl be 9th. And Dragic was good enough for Houston to decide if they wanted to start and keep him, or Lowry, who was putting up all star numbers. So yea, Dragic is pretty good. Scola and Gortat both are very good starting bigs.

When Tim Duncan was sat this past season, and Popovich wrote down" because he's old", do you think thats going to get better??? No, Tims going to sit ever more games. Not to mention, you think the Spurs care about what seed they get??? Not in the least. They just want to first get in the playoffs, and second make sure all their vets got enough rest, and third that they're healthy. They're a year older and now there's more games this year: How many games do you think all those guys are going to play out of 82??? And what San Antonio did to Utah has nothing to do with the seeds; that was an especially horrible matchup for us. Again, San Antonio will not play for seeding at all, whereas Utah will and needs to.

I picked Minny assuming Rubio was going to get a full season. If thats not the case, then agree they will not make the playoffs.

The Clippers??? With a full season of Chauncey Billups and adding Grant Hill and Crawford to their bench??? Hill is still a very smart, good perimeter player. Thats all they need off the bench. And all they will need is SOME scoring from Crawford off the bench. What those two are bringing is all cherry on top stuff. And Bledsoe is one of the best back up PGs out there. Odom, they dont even need him. If he adds something, good for them. Yea, I think they'll be good.

Denver, hmmm. Vets around Mcgee, you mean backup Andre Miller? Wilson Chandler? Harrington??? I hear what you're saying, but not like he's going to Boston. Galo is injured every year, and Ty Lawson is good not great. They're a solid team, dangerous sure, but not any better than anyone else.

And Utah. Until the last week last year they were fighting for 6th. You dont think Utah will be improved this year? And the teams they were fighting last year have stayed the same or gotten worse. Utah has gotten a better team now. Every reason to think they will improve on their seeding, while alot of those teams will falter.

West Predictions Empty
PostSubject: Re: West Predictions   West Predictions EmptySat Jul 21, 2012 6:46 pm

Here is my take:

1. OKC - No change, clearly the best team in the west.
2. Clippers - CP3 makes this team a # 2 seed this year with everyone healthy and their additions, not to mention Little Karl Malone.
3. SA - It's funny we all say how old they are but if memory serves me right Karl, Stock and Horny were all in their mid 30's when the Jazz were still making deep runs in the playoffs. Same thing here.
4. Memphis - I like Memphis, I never thought I'd say I actually enjoy watching them. Well coached and most of all a stable team with a fantastic front line.
5. ***** - Adding Nash gets helps them but in no way makes them a championship caliber team.
6. Jazz/Min - This is where I am at a loss, both teams improved and should make jumps this season, Rubio is a stud and should be very good again. We all know the Jazz's improvements, no need to mention here.
7. Min/Jazz -Same as above
8. Denver - Scrappy bunch of good players, Galo is a fantastic player when not injured. Just don't know if they have enough to pose a huge threat.

I think OKC has a one year window before contracts start hurting them and one injury can end it earlier for them.
***** even with Howard would be in trouble, you hate to see your starting point guard laying on the floor like Larry Bird used to do at his end.
San Antonio is still going to be up in the top four.
Portland is a mess, Minnesota will have trouble with Love, Denver shouldn't have anything over on the Jazz anymore.
I see hard times for Phoenix and Dallas.
The team I worry about is Memphis, the Jazz should be battling for 4-5 and Memphis looks like they might be the ones to go against.
PS.
GS gets 7th or 8th and the Jazz finally get the pick.

Thunder: Most solid, talented team
Clippers: CP's the Key
Spurs: Veteran team, but injuries and age play their part
*****: Team signed Nash to make one last push with current roster.
Jazz: Improving young team who got a taste of the Play-Offs.
Grizzlies: Led by a good frontline.
Nuggets: They come to play every night.
Mavs/T-Wolves/Suns: Mavs still have Dirk, but must ask who else steps up? T-Wolves must ask can Rubio recover to 100%? Suns must ask how long until they jell as a team?

A case could certainly be made for a couple of other teams in the battle for the 8th spot, like The Warriors, or The Trailblazers.

Quote :

With regard to Spurs, I think with the rapid emergence of Kawhi Leonard and the further integration of Boris Diaw (he only played with the Spurs a month of regular season plus playoffs last year), that the Spurs won't even take a step back. Charlotte demoralizes many players and Diaw was languishing there. He is a brilliant player who will likely flourish on a disciplined team with a hall of fame coach. And don't forget about their other young guys like Gary Neal, Patty Mills and Green. Jacko can still drop the threes.

OKC, *****, Spurs and Clips fight for the top four positions. Beyond that, it is uncallable imo --- Jazz, Memphis, Denver, Dallas, GS and Minn all fighting for five to ten. But we gotta revisit this thread one last time before the opening games.

As im doing the offseason power rankings, that will come out probably next week, its amazing how much stronger the bestern conference is than the leastern. I really only see 4 good teams in the east. miami, boston, brooklyn, and indy. After that there is a huge dropoff IMO. Chicago does not have a bench now, and no DRose. Really, I look at brooklyn and indy as above average teams. The conferences could be really really lopsided. (BTW trivia question, when was the last time it took more wins to get into the playoffs out west, then the east?)

Actually indy is better than i thought. 42-24 last year, and didnt really lose anybody big, other than collison, and they got augustine.

Oops. I mistakenly left Denver out of above post and had to put them back in. I watched a little bit of Fareid in a summer league game the other day, and that guy sure does bring the energy.

First West predictions this year from SI.com. Not bad, Utah is again underestimated, or actually they are so much, as Dallas is overestimated, and IMO Denver too. I think Utah has improved more than other teams like Denver and Dallas and even Memphis have either dropped or just stayed the same.
But decent analysis from a non-utah jazz lover, heh.

Pretty decent analysis of the teams but I noted the writer did not factor in much the impact of improvement from the Young Guns on the Jazz, other than to mention the team had young players and they are intriguing. By overlooking a potential breakout year from Hayward and Favors, much less steps up from Kanter and Burks, the Jazz are underestimated. I expect Hayward to be every bit the player AK is this coming season if not more energetic and quicker do to youth. The overlook is fine with me and I'm sure a good sized chip on the players shoulders. No way in hell, however, that Minny and Dallas finish in front of the Jazz. Other than that, the writer is right in the sense that the bottom four slots will be a dog fight again, probably coming down to the last week of the season just like last year. And when that happens, Jazz have home court in the first round!

The pundit pooh pooh train is staying consistent with overlooking everything Jazz related.

From Fox http://www.foxsportsohio.com/07/26/12/Western-Conference-offseason-report-card/landing_cavaliers.html?blockID=766593&feedID=3800, this evaluation of the Jazz's off-season moves:

"Jazz: Lost Devin Harris, Josh Howard and possibly C.J. Miles (an unrestricted free agent). Added Mo Williams, Marvin Williams and Randy Foye. In summary, the Jazz's low-profile gains may exceed their low-profile losses. That's a start, but certainly not reason for anything more than a low-profile celebration. Grade: C"

Somehow the ***** got an A+ for getting Nash and Jamison. Had they added Mo, Marv and Foye dude would have given them an A+ because its the *****.

I'm already changing my predictions, and probably will have to again. I think AK is going to have a very very solid year doing all the little things for Minnesota. I bet they love him. Roy and Budinger splitting the 2 guard time is pretty solid:

1. OKC
2. Clippers
3. Fakers (but almost tied for 2nd)
4. Memphis
5. Utah (but 4/5 could be swapped either way)
6. San Antonio
7. Minnesota
8. Denver (with a battle with PHX for the last spot)
9. PHX
10. Portland
11. Dallas, hahahahahahaha

Starting to wonder if GSW is going to be fighting for a playoff seed too: David Lee, Andrew Bogut, Stephen Curry, Richard Jefferson, Carl Landry, Klay Thompson, Brandon Rush and Harrison Barnes. Hmmm, man, if their man two gusy stay healthy, thats a pretty deep bench, with talent all over the court.

I think the bold text answers your question .... with the answer being "no". I don't see any way that even one of them stays healthy, let alone both of them.

PostSubject: Re: West Predictions   West Predictions EmptyFri Aug 10, 2012 4:32 pm

Alright, FML freaking LA; cant effing WAIT for the new CBA to kick in.......lets try this again:

Prediction on West Rankings-

1. OKC- Solid, young, will be playing for respect now too.
2. Fakers-(back issues for Nash and Dwight, old bones for MJ wannabe, and only caring to make it to the playoffs will make them not worry as much about playing all their games.)
3. Clippers
4. Utah- I think with the huge Mo add, Marv/Foye addition of their defense/shooting skills, plus keeping our other players, it's enough to push us into homecourt after neck and neck with Denver.
5. Denver- Very tough but.....I still leave them here. Faried is the PF I guess, small but does well, young but tenacious. No SG, but 4 SF's in Iggy, Wilson, Brewer and Gallo. Denver has more talent maybe, but not balanced out like Utah. And they gained Iggy, but lost multiple 3pt shooters in Afflalo and Harrington.
6. San Antonio-(much like Fakers, they just want to make it to the playoffs-vets will rest)
7. Memphis
8. Minnesota (with a battle with PHX for the last spot)
9. PHX- With the addition of Jermaine Oneal now.......just kidding.
10. Dallas, hahahahahahaha.
11. Portland.
12. SAC
BBbbbbbbbottom way bottom feeders: NO and HOU.

West Predictions Empty
PostSubject: Re: West Predictions   West Predictions EmptyTue Aug 21, 2012 4:36 pm

Espn did their "we asked 100 NBA experts" and then posted what they think the West standings will be. Have Utah coming in at 8th, behind Dallas and Memphis in that order. Although I disagree, not horrible, and says to me that if its only that much underestimating, then our Jazz are in for a pretty good year.

Someone else on here said that PHX and SAC would be the two worst teams this year (Rawns maybe?), and ESPN experts agree. I just can't believe they have Houston and New Orleans ranked above them. Those two teams are going to be HORRIBLE!!! NO has Davis but he's a defensive rookie, and then Rivers who's an ok SG but has to play PG so that Eric Gordon plays the 2. Thats it. Then we know what happened to Houston; their two best players are going to be Lin and Asik. THATS IT! Hah, man, I still disagree, I think SAC and PHX will actually fight for that 8th seed up until the last month then they'll end up like 9-11th.

I think NO is the most underrated team in the predictions. Gordon was hurt most of the year. However, they were 6-3 with him. I know he is always hurt, but getting him for 60 games would be huge. If they can get him for 60, they have a good shot at pushing for the playoffs. I look at Gordon as a huge pickup.

theother thing i disagree with is how underrated the west is as a whole to thm. they have the west as 58 games better than the east (just added up wins and subtracted losses). Last year, the west was 42 games better than the east. That projects pretty close to 58 games in a full season. If they are saying the west did not improve very much in the offseason, I would strongly, strongly disagreee. A .500 record will not be close to making the playoffs. In fact, I really think Utah gets 48-50 wins, and they are 7th. 50 wins gets you 7th I think. However, the west will keep beating each other up. I would be shocked if the west is only 58 games better than the east. I think it will be close to 100. I think these conferences are as lopsided as they have been in a long long time. Then again, not really. Look at the 07-08 standings, and I think it will be similar.

This could turn out to be a very big season for Golden State if somehow both Curry and Bogut can stay healthy for the whole season and who knows they might be able to pull it off, both have had surgery so they can recover from the injure they had and are saying they will be ready by the time the season starts. Looking at what I think could be their starting line-up it is a pretty impressive group of players A Bogut, D Lee, C Landry, K Thompson and S Curry can play with any team in the West this coming season they are looking to be a much improved team without question.

Until Bogut or Curry get's injured if that does in fact happen nobody should be overlooking this team they have really improved with the draft picks of K Thompson and H Barnes over the last two season's and the Bogut trade they have turned into a very good team compared to what they was before these guys came to the team. I am pretty sure the Jazz will be getting their 1st round pick in the 2013 draft and it is not going to be as good as we all would like, I think that pick will be short of a lottery pick somewhere around the 15th or 16th pick just missing the playoffs.

I really like Gordon he is one of my favorite players to watch play in the NBA he can do a lot of things on the court at both ends of the floor but they are a pretty Young team that will be learning how to play with each other. With A Davis and J Rivers playing as rookies along with R Anderson and a few other new comers playing in their 1st season with the Hornets it is going to take some time for them to learn the things they need to know to play as a team but once they do I believe they can become a very good team in the West.

New Orleans??? Really?? Last year they had Okafor, Kaman, Ariza and Jack. This year it's Davis, Rivers, Gordon and a bunch of guys I can't remember. Davis/Rivers/Gordon are going to push for the playoffs?? In the West????

I think we forget how good Gordon is. Maybe, I overrate him though, because I played against him his freshman year of HS in sectionals, and I am a big Indiana University fan.

Losing Okafor and Kaman aint a big deal when you consider they have Ryan Anderson and Anthony Davis at PF/C. Now, if Gordon plays PG, they are very weak on the wings. I will give you that. I think Davis is the 2nd best prospect coming out of college since LeBron. (Best is Durant, but I did not see him as a superstar. Thought he would be an all-star, but not a superstar.)

Now, if you convert their season last year to a full season they win 26 games. Are you telling me getting Gordon back for hopefully 60 games, and Davis is only worth 5 games? Because that is all they improve by according to ESPN. Remember, they went 6-3 last year with Gordon.
