Well, it's come to discussing the draft, I guess. How about that CJ McCollum?
Do the jazz have the assets to move up?
This "weak draft" appears to be getting only weaker with every passing day.
I'm intrigued with GRIII. I almost hope the jazz snag him and try for a PG in free agency or trade. Otherwise....turn it over to burks.

Discuss draft ideas, theories and predictions here.

I don't have any draft talk in me just yet. It's much to far away.

Yep, I have no real interest in sports until NFL training camp kicks of in july. Guess I'll have to spend time with my family or something Evil or Very Mad

That's funny. I told my wife tonight that now I didn't know what to do with my time now. I got the "what the hell, man...maybe spend some quality time with your wife and kids" look.

I see our boy CJ we started talking about has moved up the board to a top ten player now? Odd have went down and sucks because i think he'd been a stud. Hope our boys in the front office can pull out some magic and bring in some players.

German PG Dennis Shroder is generating quite a buzz... and he did kill it in Nike hoops summit game leading international team for a win vs USA - even if that show game does not matter that much in my eyes. Check this kid out:

Starting point guard Dennis Schroder also backed up the buzz he generated in practice, handling the US Team's athleticism with ease and dominating the game for stretches with his explosive speed. Finishing with 18 points and 6 assists while fouling out both of the US Team's point guards who spent time defending him, the German point guard was able to get to where he wanted on the floor at will with his excellent first step, ran the pick and roll effectively, and swiftly navigated through the US full-court press on a number of occasions. The 19 year old is a capable shooter and decision-maker, and was as aggressive breaking down his man one-on-one and getting into the paint and drawing contact as we'd seen all week. Declaring for the draft early this week, Schroeder capped what has been a big week for his draft outlook.

Reminds me of more athletic Tony Parker with a bit suspect jumper. He might be available when Jazz pick.

Thanks for the info. It does look like he's climbing up draft charts & may be a #15ish pick if things keep going well.

You mentioned Parker as a comparison, I'll mention another player that we all know pretty well ..... Devin Harris (and I don't say that as a bad thing, Devin was a very good PG at one time).

I'll keep my eye on him.

I have been watching him for the last week or so as well. He does seem to be climbing. Probably will be around for our pick if we were to want to take him. A lot of folks are really high on him. I have noticed that he has a quick first step and pretty dang good on the ball defense.
I have liked what I have seen for the most part, but I have admittedly not seen a lot. One question I have...is he ready to contribute in the NBA next year? Or...is he going to be a long term developing project? Are you very familiar with him, Calg? What do you think?

Nike summit game is now available to watch online, have a look. I like the kid. His defensive speed and lateral quickness is of the charts. Only 19 year old, not sure he would contribute in NBA right away, but you can't deny star potential. Other player came to mind watching him - Rondo. I would be totally fine with Jazz taking him and letting him play from the get go. Why not, next season should not be about filling gaps with veterans and trying to make playoffs. Just let all kids play and develop through growing pains.

I have actually heard a lot of Rondo comparisons...though Schroder doesn't seem to be as good of a finisher as Rondo was/is.
Also, Schroder's mid-range game leaves much to be desired. He shoots lights out from behind the arc, but he shoots a ridiculously low percentage inside the 3 point line. Although, Hornacek could probably fix that.

I'm hoping we can pick up a certain SLU player late in the 2nd round. Oh wait, we don't have a late 2nd round pick. Damn. Well, I think the Jazz might need to trade some picks with the ideal of getting more later than more now from the draft. Ugh, it looks tough for the Jazz unless we want to go into complete rebuild mode a la Orlando.

Here's the flaw with that whole "complete rebuild like Orlando" thing, it would have been true had the Jazz done it the summer after they traded D-Will, but the Jazz are already a year or two ahead of that now. In fact if you swapped out Jefferson and Millsap for Al Harrington and Big Baby on the 2011-2012 team and you have the 2012-2013 Orlando Magic. Hayward, Favors, and Kanter would have been the 1st, 2nd, and 4th best players on that Orlando team this year, and that is including Big Baby and Redick. As it was Orlando's 3 best players at the end of the season were all rookies. I'd say the Jazz are 1-2 years into that kind of rebuild, only we competed for the playoffs at the same time. Jettisoning all of the veterans and going young doesn't set us back to ground zero, in fact at this point I think it will be more like a small step back, more like this years Portland team than Orlando.

I wish I had written that! And, I wish it weren't completely true. However, I think in many ways what you're saying is completely accurate. One of the bottom lines is that we can't have it both ways. We could have traded both Big Al and Paul, and developed DC, Burks, Hayward, Favors, Evans, and Kanter-- and yes, we would be looking at an early lottery pick with another decent spot with GS' pick. What Orlando did was obvious, and their fans were given no choice but to accept it.

ESPN's mock draft game has the Jazz taking Kelly Olynyk (7' 238 PF, Gonzaga) under almost all cicumstances.

Gotta say I wouldn't mind that pick. We are gonna need to start restocking our bigs, and Olynyk was a beast for Gonzaga last season.

If he is still on the board though I would take Michael Carter-Williams.

I'll tell you who we take with our second pick now, Alex Len outta Md. Kid was looking like a possible top-5 pick, but now just went out for 4-6months for ankle surgery. If it was a knee I'd pass, but ankle doesn't worry me as much. 7footer that looked pretty good out here, does need some instruction/big man skills worked on. But he'll tumble now, and we dont need him necessarily now anyway, assuming we have/sign a backup big.

Chad Ford has the Jazz taking Kelly Olnyk and Shane Larkin in his second Mock...

http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/draft2013/story/_/id/9252354/2013-nba-draft-chad-ford-mock-draft-20

Also mentions Piere Jackson and Dennis Schroeder as possibilities at #21. Also interesting that he had the Jazz passing on Carter-Williams at #14.

I must admit, I am intrigued by the crop of PG's that are comming together in the post-lottery first round, a lot of guys there that could be very good.

I would not mind this pick at all if it was to come true I like what I seen from Olynyk as a 7 footer I think he would be another nice addition to the big man rotation the Jazz already has and if they can pick up a PG with the other pick that has potential I think it would be a successful draft for the Jazz.

Gots to take best player at 14th most likely a big but at 21st pick i'm taking good hard look at Larkin if not him green. Larkin is small but has best vison in the draft and can shoot lights out. Would be a nice back up to tyrek evans.

I think i'd pass on Carter at 14th just because i like some of the other player/PGs going later on in draft. I'm hoping we take the best player with our 14th pick and i'm pretty sure its gonna be a big.

What i worry about is GSW trading back with suns to 30th and getting cash or rights to some other player and jazz getting stuck with a crapie pick come draft day? And can they do it? Lakers did it with heat so suns would get the 30th pick this year and not the 16th pick. I'm just holding my breath it dont go down that way.
