Or sorta under it somewhere. Guy is so underrated its not even funny. I think We could get someone like Harden for Kanter too and steal Teague from them with sign and trade for Marvin back YUCK and our two bad first rounders.

So yeah you have Favors, Smoove, Hayward, Harden, Teague, Nate Robb, tony Allen man who wouldn't LOVE that team?

Oh yeah so why you sign and trade is because its gunna be expensive to steal Teague from them and you don't want to kill caps so you offer up a 14 & 24 picks to save millions every year see and they take Marsian Marvin back okay so don't hate on me for it.

Wow.

So your plan is to 1) pay near max for Josh Smith who has proven that he is not ever going to be the best player on a contender, 2) Trade Kanter for some "like Harden" player who doesn't actually exist, 3) give up not one, but two first round picks to sign-and-trade a restricted free agent and dump an expiring contract when we can just sign the restricted free agent outright for the same amount and use the expiring contract to get something of value and 4) just pick up Tony Allen like he's not going to be one of the most in demand wings in free agency, just so we can have a team that looks an awful lot like this years Atlanta Hawks.

I'm speechless, so I'll just go with this...

I'm just messing with you man, but most of that stuff is really pretty bad. Don't hate the Idea of getting Smith, think he'd be worth 12-14 Mil a year if he was in a good place mentally.

1) harden would be the best player, obviously.
2) that squad is reminiscent of championship Detroit only more athletic. Yeah, dude, giving up two poor draft picks is worth a championship.
3) you can't just sign restricted free agents. See the meaning of restricted here: cbafaq.com
4) Marvin's going to make like $8000000. That's not chump change like you made it out to be.

You and your "championship" teams. The moves you propose have the team looking more like Denver or Memphis than San Antonio or OKC, not that that's a bad thing, unless you have crushed the Jazz cap space and amost ensureed that they will not be able to keep important players when their contracts expire in the process, I just think your concept of what constitutes a championship team may need some callibration.

But after watching what Smith is doing to Indiana and Paul George I'm comming around on your price tag there.

But I'm no hater, so I'm not going to just sit here and snipe at ideas without putting myself out there. Here's what I do if I'm the GM this summer...

The first thing I do is flip one of the first round picks over to Phoenix for Goran Dragic, with the other I take Schroeder. Second round I take a flyer on local kid Brandon Davies.

In free agency I sign J Smoove to a front loaded, 4 year/ $60 Million deal (16 Mil in year 1, 14 mil in year 4), I rent Samuel Dalembert on a 1 or 2 year deal, and I resign Demarre Carroll for 3 years/6 Mil.

Going into camp the teams looks like this...

PG: Dragic, Schroeder, McNeal
SG: Hayward, Burks, Murphy
SF: Smith, Carroll, Williams
PF: Favors, Evans, Davies
C: Kanter, Dalembert

That's a competitive playoff team next year that turns into a contender as Hayward, Kanter, and Favors come into their primes in 2-3 years. It leaves enough flexibility to sign 3 of the young guys to 8 figure deals (if they are worth that) and still fill out the roster with other role players.

Not bad. Athletically, that team would be great & I see a lot of defensive promise as well. I think the most glaring problem I see on that proposed squad is that outside of Hayward & Dragic, there's no outside threat on that team (even considering Burks' improvement). You don't want Josh Smith thinking that he needs to shoot more 3's do you? Wink Unless Kanter really develops his shot, there's not mich shooting from your bigs either. I'm sure we all remember two years ago when teams didn't even guard the three point line against the Jazz. We don't want a re-run of that.

Critique aside, unless CP3 comes knocking on the ESA door, there's really no way the team will be perfect next year. I still like the idea of getting Tyreke Evans & letting him run the show more than any of the other weak PG options out there.

I love that squad. Only thing I'd like to add to is, is Foye on a similar contract to what he has this year. Unless Murphy is showing that kind of ability, I really love Foye on this team...........AS AN OFF THE BENCH SHOOTER, TYRONE.
Would love it if Marvin didn't re-up, sign Foye, add another forward.

I love the idea of Dragic. Solid offense AND defense. He's all that the suns have though and I don't see them giving him up withou big salary. Now, I'd take him and unhappy Gortat along with a studded 2x4 up my ass sideways. The FO weasels Dragic and I'll be one giddy s.o.b., especially with that kush contract. Roll it and smoke it!

Ya, my favorite trade scenario at the deadline last year had the Jazz trading Big Al and the GS pick to Phoenix for Gortat and Dragic, not sure if it was realisitic but it made a lot of sense on paper. I would absolutely love to see Gortat as the third big with Kanter and Favors.

Gortat was massively unhappy all season, and Dragic was benched for Kendall Marshall who they clearly feel is their PG of the future. They repeatedly talked about "going in a different direction" and "changing the culture" as they tanked their season away and pretty much every veteran on the team wanted out before it was over. Hard to immagine Phoenix not at least listening to offers for both of those guys, especially offers that included first round draft picks.

I like both players but its comes at a high price tag. I think there Pg is top noch but not sure i'd throw a first round pick? More like trade M will and a second rounder and then they are in rebuild mode and dump salary quickly? I'm sure we throw first round picks they'll be jumping all over that with wanting vets gone?

They may be looking to trade them but they still have value. You gotta think about what a mid-first round pick is worth, and what is going to be worth the most to the Suns. What is the likelyhood that you draft a player at #14 that turns out to be as good or better than either Dragic or Gortat? I'd say about 50/50, and it drops to probably 20/80 at pick 21. If anything it's Phoenix that want's more out of the deal.

Marvin would actaully be a negative in this kind of deal, especially when the Jazz can absorb the contracts without sending anybody back.

I've heard rumors that the Suns want to make a run at Smith, but if Shannon Brown opts in they likely won't have the cap room to do that. They really do seem like a prime candidate to be dumping players for picks on draft day in order to shake up the roster and clear some more room under the cap.

The only way PHX gets rid of Dragic, is if they indeed need to dump players. Kendall Marshall got some run at the end of the year, but in now way was it because they've decided he's their PG of the future. He's just not good enough. I think PHX just noticed that they're severely out of the playoff race, and why not play the rookie to see what they have, and meanwhile will lose even more games, making their lottery chances better.

I'm sure Utah would jump at any offer to take Marvin btw. But nobody is offering.

In other words, they want to ADD players around Dragic because he IS good enough. No way we could get him, and it's too bad. He'd be ideal.

Dragic started 77 games and played serious minutes. The other side of me also wonders if I'm overvaluing Dragic since he was only 14/7 on a bad team. I like the product I've seen, and he's more of a true point with patience over pure speed a la Mo, but is this nothing more than fan desire in me wanting a true operator that we've lacked in Harris-Williams???

I'd obviously love to hear everyone's thoughts on Dragic.

I think you're overvaluing late 1st rounders (in this draft esp.) by a bit. I don't see the GSW pick as anything but potential lottery lightening. Shooting craps vs. security but most likely not enough return is my question when it comes to that pick. I'd rather gamble it off on Dragic.

Dragic can be had plenty easily if it means giving up draft picks and taking salary back. I have a hunch that that was the reason KOC & Lindsey said no. Suns have some bad contracts. Beasely LOL

I just dont see it. Dragic is their best player, AND Quarterback. That team stunk. They were terrible. And there is literally zero drawback to Dragic, great player--even his contract is fine at 7m per. I want to see Utah go after him, I think he'd be ideal. And IMO, he managed what, 14 and 7(?) despite the drama and stink. You put him on a semi-decent team like his last Houston team, or UTAH, and he's running circles around guys.
Maybe taking salary back would work.....what a HORRENDOUS addition Beasley would be, hah. But if it's a year of Beasley, but 3 years or more of Dragic? Well, thats fine with me. But I'm sure that is the ONLY way we'd get Dragic, is to take a bunch of crap back too.
However, I stick to my guns. You dont give up the 7m per year young STUD QB just for draft picks in a weak draft. Just doesn't happen. I hope I'm wrong.

So if the jazz took on more of there payroll and we got the pick they could go get smith who i think will never come here because we know jazz will not over pay for a player. Could be win win if we are not to straped and can sign our young guys when that time comes due?

I've been thinking along the same lines. If the Jazz can't attract a big money FA (not that there are many to attract), I can totaly see them taking on a short term bad contract from another team in a trade & landing a good player/asset in the deal as well. For now, it looks like they may struggle to even get to the league minimum salary, so there would be no harm done by grabbing an Eddie Curry-type short tearm deal from a team who is strapped financialy.

Say the Celts want to blow it up and start from scratch... the team could theoretically take on the last year of Pierces deal, plus get Rondo in exchange for something like Marvin, Tomic & a draft pick (just an example, not saying BOS would do that).

Or something a little less "big time" like trading with Brooklyn, who is over the cap. Get Humphries as our third big (and the last year of his $12 million contract) along with a pick & M.Brooks for next to nothing just so the Nets can get some cap flexibilty.

Could take on Turkoglu's terrible $11+ million dollar last year, but make the Magic throw in a young talent like T.Harris E.Moore, just to help the Magic free up cap space. Maybe even get J.Nelson as a short term PG in the process?

The Raptors may still be looking to unload the last 2 years of Bargnani's $10 million per contract. He would actually compliment a guy like Favors pretty well (as a bench guy), and add a needed offensive weapon, assuming Paul & Al both leave.

If the Wolves want cap room ...how about trading for AK if he opts into his contract?

According to many sources, the Hornets are trying hard to get rid of E.Gordon's 3 year $13+ million contract. Would it be worth it to the Jazz to take on his contract if they also got G.Vazquez? Maybe for Marvin? I dunno.

Those are simply some not-so-well-thought-out ideas. Just throwing 'em out there & seeing if something sticks.

I like the way your think and i think for the jazz to land a good player they like its going be by taking on a loaded contract to do it. Allmost all those on the FA list will not be on the jazz list. Most the trades you've pointed out there have some real bite and could give the jazz enough to get into the playoffs. At really no cost when you think they need to stay up above league mid range. I think i like Magic deal if we could do some kind of first round pick swap?lol, think they'd buy off on that? Prob take both our first round picks to do it?

Again, I have not checked the numbers, but I know the Magic have some cap room so ...

Since you brought up ORL, sunny FL is a good FA destination, but they just don't have any real talent on that team. Orlando could use additional cap space to attract a couple good FA's if they could rid themseves of Hedo.

So just for fun....
Turkoglu, Nelson & a 2014 1st rounder to the Jazz
Murphy (have to guarantee his contract first) & this years GS pick to ORL.

If they slip out of the top spot in the lottery, the Magic can draft Burke or whatever top PG is available when they pick, so Jameer is expendable... or (more likely) the land a top 2 pick (most likely Noel or McLemore) & sign someone like Jennings, Teague or Calderon with their newly aquired $19 million in cap space. They still have the cap room to sign another top FA like Josh Smith, plus get a decent youngster with the GS pick. They also add Murphy, for what it's worth. Orlando's future & present instantly gets brighter.

PG: Jennings/Calderon/Teague
SG: A.Afflalo
SF: T.Harris
PF: J.Smith
C: N.Noel
Bench: Vucevic, G.Davis, E.Moore, A.Harrington, GS pick
....or....
PG: Jennings/Calderon/Teague
SG: B.McLemore
SF: T.Harris
PF: J.Smith
C: Vucevic
Bench: A.Afflalo, G.Davis, E.Moore, A.Harrington, GS pick

Oh happy day for Magic fans, right?

The Jazz grab a potential lottery pick from ORL next year, in what is supposed to be a good draft. They get a nice veteran PG to fill in while they develop the PG they pick this year, or wait until next year when they have the ORL pick + their own first rounder to draft that "PG of the future". Turkolgu either becomes a nice bench player or the team just releases him.

I think I'm making this sound too easy.

I bet they would put like a top seven pick protect or they keep the pick? I know next years draft will be better but its a gamble giving them our top pick this year in hope they're not in top seven next year. I would like it better if its Golden states pick this year not ours? I mean we are helping them with contracts? Right. Or do you see one of the top three in this years draft picks being worth taking on two bad contracts and giving up both our picks this year? And would they bite? You say they are well under the leagues max, They would'nt bite.

But i think you're on to something where some team/teams would jump at in a heart beat. One of the others?

Man, I'd take that in a heartbeat, and absolutely be MOST excited about getting Grievas. If Gordon stayed healthy for once, then hey, cherry on top and huge boom.

So yeah you have Favors, Smoove, Hayward, Harden, Teague, Nate Robb, tony Allen man who wouldn't LOVE that team?

Why the heck didn't everyone who read Mag's post just buck up and say, "Oh yeah, you're right." (?) There is absolutely no reason why the Jazz should try to grab Josh Smith. I thought this Jazzfan site was loaded with people that were convinced Kanter and Evans (with the odd combination of Burkes, DC and HeyHay) were the answers to all the Jazz' woes (and, the reason we should fire Ty Corbin for not admitting this). How can anyone jumping on the fire Ty campaign say we should add Josh Smith to the Jazz lineup? It just doesn't make sense.

I've read your post a couple times, and I dont get it. Im the driver on the Fire Corbin Bandwagon. And I think Josh Smith should be added. You've lumped quite a few ideas into one umbrella type comment. I never said anyone on this team was the answer to the jazz problems, and I certainly dont think it's Evans. I said there were better players to play and better combinations for what we were working with.

I think Josh Smith would be a great add as long as we didn't lose any of the Core 4. Why shouldn't I?

Sorry Mags, for re-quoting you. I agree with what you're saying. I'm re-quoting you to respond to Mu-Tang, another poster I usually admire tremendously. I hope you don't mind if I capitalize your "if" in my response.

MuTang! We already have Marvin Williams, who was supposed to be much better than Smith. Williams and Smith didn't turn out to be a combo that worked in Atlanta, and we got Williams sort of on the cheap side. It turned out Marvin Williams and Al Jefferson didn't combine into a combo that was any better. We're about to let Al Jefferson go, and you want to pick up Josh Smith (who may be trying to get more than Jefferson)? I'm not sure what Mag meant when he said Josh Smith would be "worth 12-14 Mil a year if he was in a good place mentally," but, I assure you Josh Smith would not be happy playing in Utah with a low-ball contract for any length of time. There is no way Smith would come here unless we overpaid him-- and even then, at best, he would only play as well as he can. Josh Smith is an opportunistic player that makes the most of his time on court by shooting the ball every time he has the chance-- his percentages aren't that good, but his point totals add up to something substantial even though his team loses.

I thought ATL's reliance on Josh Smith was one of the reasons you wanted to fire Ty Corbin for doing the same thing with Al Jefferson. I didn't realize you started the whole "Fire Corbin" thing, but, that doesn't matter. I thought the whole "Fire Corbin" buzz was about Ty giving too much time to vet players (Mo-Will, Foye, Marvin Williams, Millsap, and Big Al) as opposed to our rookies and developing players (Burks, Heyhay, DC, Evans, Favors, and Kanter). I'm pretty sure that's what the argument was. Correct me if I'm wrong (but, I've tried to be faithful to this forumotion website all year-long, and, I don't think I've missed anything that would contradict what I'm saying). And, you are now saying we should bring in Smith (who isn't as talented as Big Al [IMO] to be our... our what? Our PF? Our slightly undersized Center?

Magnus had it right a couple of pages ago. But, Magnus pointed out Smith would be okay for Utah only IF his mental disposition was right for Utah. If Smith came to Utah, the only acceptable disposition would be for him to say, "Yeah, I'll do whatever it takes to win a championship-- even if I make much less than the current market is willing to pay me."

Or......

The Lakers amnesty Kobe, dump Gasol, sign both Dwight and Smith, then re-sign Kobe next summer.
