Drive to the Finals Challenge Empty
PostSubject: Drive to the Finals Challenge   Drive to the Finals Challenge EmptyThu Apr 18, 2013 1:03 am

This is the third time I've put this up on our Jazzfan site. For some reason it keeps getting deleted. But, here's an invite to something which should be fun and entertaining for us Jazzfans. Here's my original post:

I just started a playoff league fantasy-like game called "Drive to the Finals" on NBA.com. I did this last year, and everyone who participated did very well. It doesn't cost anything, and there are multiple prizes available. I won an NBA league pass (on NBA.com) last year, and tied for the most points in the last week of the playoffs (there was a drawing, and I didn't actually get anything for that).

The game is pretty easy, pretty straight-forward. You pick ONE player per day for all of the games of the NBA playoffs. Out of all the games played on any day, you can only pick one player. The trick is: you can only pick any player only once. (So, you don't want to pick LeBron James or Kevin Durrant in the first round unless you think they won't be around for the finals.) (On the other hand, there are weekly prizes, so you may want to use LeBron and Durant in the first week or second week, just so you may win the weekly prize.)

I've played this for a few years and have always won in the league I've joined. Last year was the first year I started my own league and invited Tribtalk league folks into it. (I still won it last year.)

It's a great way to get unexpected benefits on nba.com. So, I just started a league. To join, go to nba.com and find the fantasy category of "Drive to the Finals." Choose to join an existing league and look for "Jazzfamily." The password is, "tribtalk" all in lower case.

All the Jazzfans that entered last year finished at least in the 80th percentile. It's always good to see validation that we are some of the smartest fans on the NBA radar.

Apologies to anyone who tried to join the Jazzfamily "Drive to the Finals" game on nba.com. There was apparently a problem for those trying to sign up. My bad (I guess). I changed it so it is set up as a public league, and Troll was able to join. It may be that not many people wanted to play the game-- but, so far, it's only Troll and me. If anyone wants to jump in, it's completely free, and, an easy way to get free benefits from nba.com. There are weekly prizes and random drawings for other prizes. It's not a head-to-head game where you are competing against others in your league-- it's more of a bunch of people (over a million) trying to get free stuff. If anyone wants to join, you can go to nba.com and find "Drive to the Finals" listed under their fantasy category. The league I started is called, "Jazzfamily." You don't need to join that league to play, but, anyone on this site is certainly welcome to join.

To re-emphasize, this is a public league, so you don't need a password (so, you can ignore that part of my earlier instructions on joining).

Troll, you were smart/silly enough to join up once you heard about the game, and happened to pick the same pick I took on day one. And, you joined the disfunctional league I started. So, looking at it as head to head, we're on! Actually though, this is not at all a head to head contest. Anyone can join at any time, and they don't need to be a part of the "Jazzfamily" league I started. There are probably over a million players trying to win free stuff from nba.com that are playing. There are weekly contests which award things like Jerseys, basketballs, and game tickets, as well as drawings where you can win free stuff.

I've always played it trying to win it all, but, because there are so many people doing the same thing, I haven't come too close (still I was in the 90th percentile). But, I did luck into a free nba.com game-pass for a year-- and, for the last week of the finals I finished tied for first with the most points that week. It ended up in a drawing (in which I didn't get picked).

I would love it if someone from our Forumotion crew won something from this game. You don't have to join the league I started to play. You can join the game as long as the playoffs are going on. There are weekly prizes, and, if you didn't waste Step Curry and other great players (like Troll and I have done), you might have a great shot at winning a weekly prize. I still have hopes for me and Troll in the overall competition, but, realistically, we may finish in the top 90th percentile at best.

Troll, Paul George MAY have been an excellent pick. But, there is no way I would have taken George. I think Indy has a good chance of making it not only into the 2nd round, but also into the 3rd round. If Indy makes it into the Eastern finals, you won't be able to use Paul George. You got over 40 pts for George on that day. But, 25 pts from a player that won't be around for round two (or three) is a lot more valuable in the early rounds than a possible 30 pts in round two or three. If Indy loses in the first round, your pick will have been an excellent pick-- but, I don't see that happening.

Anyone who joins the game from here on might still be able to beat either of us. But, if you keep going for the short-term rewards, you won't have a chance. If I could have a 2nd team (which isn't allowed), I think I could join now and beat both your team and my team. I hope someone from the Forumotion squad jumps in and does it.

Westbrook would have been a player to have made a crazy out of line pick just before he went down? Like i say crazy stuff like that can blow pick thinking but bright thing about B west going down is Fisher the ring chaser will NOT get his ring. Hate that guy more after pulling it with Mavs?

Yep, Westbrook is out, and that changes everything. No one in their right mind would have used Westbrook so early in the Drive to the Finals-- but, somebody probably did. I didn't use Westbrook or David Lee, but, with over a million people playing that game, someone probably did.

Troll and I could use some help on perspectives for our future picks. Let's move this to the other category of "The Rest of the NBA."

PS. Anyone can still join the nba.com "Drive to the Finals" game. There are weekly prizes, so, even though it's too late (probably) to win the overall competition, you can still win free stuff.
